About This Vintage Ad

This is a wonderful example of Fender’s famous Stratocaster from the late 60’s. Its 3-tone Sunburst finish is bright & unfaded. It has some moisture that affected the very bottom edge of the body as seen in the pics. Its rosewood neck has their large headstock & is date stamped June 1968. Its frets are original w/about 70% of their life left. Its original white pickgard has the unusual white pearloid back side as many guitar had during this post CBS period. Its loaded w/a set of 3 fabulous original pickups dated to 11/29 & 11/30 1966 w/pots having date codes from the 10th week of 1966 which was quite a common occurrence. It’s sporting a set of Kluson tuners that seem to have been on it most of its life albeit has a few screw holes hiding under them from a set of F-tuners on it sometime prior. This is a nice original “Hendrix Era” early CBS Stratocaster, made in mid-1968, a period when a lot of changes were going down at Fender. It has transitional features of this specific time, when the character of the instruments was changing from the old “Leo” style towards the slicker ’70’s pure CBS look. The ultimate of the Stratocaster Jimi Hendrix mostly played then-new models built at this time that has given the guitars of this period a special appeal in the ensuing years. While no longer truly Pre-CBS in feel, these transitional late 1960s Strats still hold a strong fascination for many players of what many feel was a special time in music and cultural history. This Strat is excellent overall w/a great feel & playability. It comes complete w/an original black tolex hard case.
