Description

This is a 1977 Music Man Stingray Bass that was made prior to the Ernie Ball musical instruments.  This bass has some wear but is all original other then the pickguard and includes a tolex hardshell case.

The body has an original sunburst finish and the neck is a one piece maple neck which has been refretted and probably refinished.  The hardware is chrome and all original, in fact other then the pickguard the entire bass is original.  This is a string through body which means the strings go through the bridge and the body.  This string through design has been proven to improve resonance and tonal response and these Pre Ernie Stingrays are exceptional.

The electronics are all original Pre Ernie Ball Music Man but they were assembled out of a few different basses.  This means the pots, pickups and input jack are all Pre Ernie Ball but when I got the bass that was not the case.  I found all the necessary pots, jack and pickups and put this together.  Since this has the right parts that means this also has the right tone and this thumps.  The bass weighs 11 pounds and 12.4 ounces.

This has the classic Cliff Williams AC/DC look and sound and also comes with a vintage style tweed hardshell case.

Condition

The bass is not in bad shape but this does have wear, this is a vintage instrument that has been played.  There are nicks in the finish and under the bridge is a spot of finish that is gone and someone tried touching up.  The metal is in good shape with standard patina.

There is some pretty bad gouging on the face of the headstock and the neck finish has a patina as well.  The bass clearly has been worn but it still looks great.  In fact this has the type of vintage vibe and mojo that a lot of people spend $1000’s for.

If you want the true low end tone and funky highs of a Music Man try this bass.
