This is a exceedingly rare example of Gibson’s earliest 80’s attempt at making a true 1959 Reissue & when they started making better guitars across the board. These special ordered ’59 Reissues were made for the Guitar Trader, Jimmy Wallace, Strings & Things & this example, for “Leo’s” Guitar shop in Oakland, California. Its Honey’burst finish is quite lovely over a very nice chevron shaped flamey maple top. Its neck is quite playable w/a bit of a fat profile bearing the Leo’s specific serial # of LI 0358 matching its hang tag. Its see-thru cherry red finished back, sides & neck are brilliant. She’s still originally equipped w/2 early factory Tim Shaw Humbucking pickups, its original pots date to 1980 & 1982 also w/a nice cream pickgard, Deluxe Kluson tuners, nickel tun-a-matic bridge & stop tailpiece. Just in from its original owner whom acquired it in 1983 from Leo’s shop directly for a hefty $1200. on sale. Included is its original Leo’s shop price tag w/all of its details, a copy of Randy Leonard’s guitar log showing its completion on 2/2/83 all in its original Brown Tolex/pink lined hard case.
