Condition:

$600.00

Year:

Location: Scottsdale, AZ.

His weekly syndicated radio Jackie Robinson Radio Shots show aired 1959-1961 on WLIB-AM in New York City. Robinson had been seeking his own show for some time without success due to the lack of a sponsor willing to underwrite Jackie’s controversial viewpoints. Finally, Liebmann Breweries (makers of Rheingold beer) stepped up and Robinson, despite his anti-alcohol stance, gladly accepted. Uncommon pairing of reel-to-reel tapes containing original audio from radio episodes of Jackie Robinson Radio Shots: the caption to one case is dated April 12 and titled, “Jackie Robinson Show, Sammy Davis—Atty Gen Lefkowitz,” with pencil notation: “Complete off-air”; and the second case, identified as “84-84A,” is annotated on the bottom NBC label, “The Jackie Robinson Show, Excerpts out for WLIB, ‘Slim’ Brundage (Beatnik), Art Farmer (Jazz Trumpeter), Edited for Broadcast, 8-27-60—8-28-60.” Both tapes total 45 minutes. In overall fine condition. Shipping - $12.00
